Inventor HSM, just like all our Autodesk CAM solutions, is built on our next generation multi-core 64-bit CAM engine with support for distributed toolpath calculations, ensuring maximum performance. Innovative toolpath strategies like Adaptive Clearing help generate the most efficient toolpaths possible, resulting in reduced machining time, improved surface quality, minimal tool wear and extended machine life. Even the Post Processor system is designed to get programs to the shop floor more quickly by generating CNC code at speeds of hundreds of thousands of lines per second.

Inventor HSM helps users create toolpaths for the best possible surface finish with flexible toolpath options and settings. In addition, included simulation tools help users verify the machining process before CNC programs are run on a machine. Highly customizable post-processors and a powerful CNC editor further enable users to tailor their programs to their CNC machine.
Inventor HSM utilizes the latest technologies including native 64-bit support for users of the 64-bit version of Inventor resulting in superior performance, especially when working on large or complex designs.
Inventor HSM is designed to take advantage of the latest workstation technologies including 4 – 24 core systems. Multi-processor/multicore support dramatically speeds generation of complex toolpaths and is beneficial not only when generating multiple operations or rebuilding complex parts after a design change, but also when generating a single toolpath.
Inventor HSM uses a Distributed CAM server that enables users to respond even faster to design changes, by automatically utilizing idle PCs on the local network to reduce toolpath calculation time. Distributed CAM is automatically used by Inventor HSM when installed on selected PCs and requires no additional setup or interaction from the user.
Best-in-class 3D toolpath strategies
Inventor HSM toolpaths are optimized to reduce cycle time, improve surface quality and extend tool life. In addition to the traditional pocket clearing strategy, Inventor HSM features the innovative Adaptive Clearing strategy that typically reduces roughing time by 40% or more and increases the tool life by as much as a factor of 10 depending on the material hardness. Finish paths follow the part faces to create the final part shape. Many machining strategies are available to suite the part topology. Inventor HSM provides superior finish machining technologies that incorporate smooth/tangent lead in/out moves to keep the tool moving in a smooth motion, reducing machine wear and tool marks.

Tool information can be specified directly using the Inventor tool library or imported from 3rd party tool databases. Production documents, including a tool list, are automatically generated and can be exported in a number of different formats including HTML, XML, Excel and Word documents.
All 2D and 3D strategies support 3+2 machining (5-axis positioning) by rotating the part or the head of the machine tool through a combination of A, B, or C axis motions. Create 3+2 operations by simply selecting a work plane for the operation. Inventor HSM takes care of the rest by finding the most efficient rotations to orient the part. Once positioned, all machining strategies are available. Tools and holders are gouge protected for all strategies that normally support this feature.
In order to run Autodesk Inventor HSM 2015 you will need the following:
- A PC meeting the minimum requirements to run Autodesk Inventor.
- Serial communications included in Inventor HSM Edit requires that you have a physical and properly functioning RS232 Serial Port on your Workstation or PC.
- The serial port can be a physical serial port (DB9 – more common, or DB25), a serial communications card (PCI, etc.), or a USB to Serial Converter (typically a USB to DB9 Serial Converter/Adaptor).
- Available for Windows 64-bit only.
