GIS into the Civil 3D Workflow

  Autocad Civil 3D is built on top of Autocad, and Autocad Map 3D.  This class will help demonstrate how to use GIS capabilities of the Map 3D tools within Civil 3D.  We can import/Export GIS related information with relative ease within our familiar CAD environment.  The advantage here is we can enhance our Civil Deliverables with GIS related data.   In the past CAD Data and GIS Data have always been kept separate, why?  Our experience working with Civil Engineers and Surveyors are frankly they just don’t know that the tools exist.   This one day class will give you the jump start to expose you to the Map 3D tools.     Topics covered: Working with Coordinate Systems:
  • Assigning a Coordinate System.
  • Re Projecting from one Coordinate System to another.
  • Grid Coordinate Systems.
  • Ground Coordinate Systems.
  Importing/Exporting GIS related data:
  • File and Data types.
  • Import from ESRI *.shp file.
  • Export to ESRI *.shp file.
  • MAPIMPORT vs FDO Connect.
  • Working with Raster Images.
  • Connecting to a Microsoft Access Data Base.
  • Importing USDA Data for Surface generation (Civil 3D Surfaces).
    GIS “Base File” for Civil and Survey Deliverables:
  • One drawing for all our GIS related data.
  Attribute Data:
  • Understand what Attribute Information is.
  • Create Object Classification.
  • Connecting to Geo Spatial Features.
  • Drawing Based Attributes
  Source Drawing Queries:
  • Learn how to Query from one drawing to another.
  • Query with using Attribute information, such as “Elevation” when importing GIS
Contours.   Annotation:
  • Stylizing with FDO (Connected data).
  • Theming with FDO (Connected data).

    Prerequisites: This is an intro class, familiarity with Auocad and Civil 3D is essential.  Knowledge of Surfaces,  Prospector Tab and Settings Tab
