Civil 3D Pipe Networks
This class will demonstrate the Pipe Layout and Drafting Tools in Autocad Civil 3D. Civil 3D uses
a Network Model, providing a powerful system for representing the interactions of Pipes and
structures within a system. The Civil 3D Pipe Network will also link to an external analysis
program called Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis (SSA). Detailed analysis operations in the
SSA product are covered in a separate training class.
This class will provide some insight into the development of prototyped pipe network settings,
deployed through template drawings that make the required pipe cataloged elements available
to all designers. The class is structured for the creation and editing of pipe network data, as
well as Civil 3D’s pipe annotation capabilities and the ability to create design deliverables.
Topics covered:
Civil 3D Pipe Network Creation:
- Pipe Network Creation Tools.
- Create a Pipe Network by Object.
- Controlling Flow Direction.
Civil 3D Pipe Networks Parts List:
- Civil 3D Pipe and Structure Catalogs.
- Part Size availability.
- Adding Parts to the Parts List.
- Adding Part Sizes to existing catalogs.
Civil 3D Pipe and Structure Styles:
- Object Layers vs. Style Layers.
- Assigning styles in the Parts List.
- Assigning Blocks to Structure Styles.
- Existing and Proposed situations.
Pipe and Structure Rules:
- How Rules work.
- Rule hierarchy and control order.
- Rule association within the Parts List.
Pipe Data in Profile:
- Drawing Pipe Network Parts in profile view.
- Profile Display and Style Overrides.
- A better way to do FES in profile view.
Editing Civil 3D Pipe Networks:
- Swapping Parts.
- Pipe & Structure in Plan and Profile – Data Editing
- Pipe & Structure in Plan and Profile – Grip Editing.
- Controlling Rim and Sump Elevations.
- Structure orientation.
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with Civil 3D is essential. Knowledge of Surfaces, Prospector Tab and Settings Tab. In
addition, basic Pipe design and familiarity with how Civil 3D object interact is required.
