CONFIGURE ISOMETRICS TO SHOW INSULATION AND TRACING

Software Version: All

Typically, the Isometric Styles that are installed with Plant 3D do not show the insulation and tracing on the isometrics. Meaning, if you set the insulation and/or tracing on a pipeline and drop the isometric, the insulation and tracing will not show on the isometric by default.

Beginning with Plant 2021, the representation of pipe insulation has changed. See images below.

This article will show how to configure your Isometric Styles to show the insulation and/or tracing on the isometric.

  • Browse to your Iso Style folder. For this article I used the installed Final_ANSI-C Iso Style.
  • Open the IsoConfig.xml file. I use foxe from firstobject.com to edit XML files.
  • Once you have opened the file in an editor, go to Themes > Theme > Insulation as shown below.

NOTE: The IsoConfig.xml is just a text file that could also be edited using Windows Notepad. Be careful editing this file as a typographical error could make an isometric generation fail.

Once this setting is changed, your isometric will look like the below image. If the pipeline you dropped the isometric from has the insulation and/or tracing set.

See table below for descriptions of the insulation properties in the IsoConfig.xml file.

InsulationLineLayerName (sting); reference the layer name of the insulation line in the generated drawing. Default value: Insulation Line
HeatTracingLineLayerName (sting); reference the layer name of the heat tracing line in the generated drawing. Default value: Heat Tracing Line
InsulationTracingOffsetDistance (double) > 0.0 The distance between the insulation/heat-tracing line and the component. Default value: 0.125 (Imperial) Default value: 3 (Metric)
UseDoubleLineInsulation ‘true’ or ‘false’ ‘true’ = display the instulatin line in both side of the pipe ‘false’ = display the insualtion lin in one sidd of the pipe Default value: true
UseOffsetLineInsulation ‘true’ or ‘false’ ‘true’ = display offset line as Insulation & Heat Tracing ‘false’ = do not display Insulation and Heat Tracing line Default value: false
